Children will generally talk more if someone talks to them using comments more than questions.
It is better to say to your child, “there’s a car”, “there’s the bus” rather than “What’s that?” The occasional “what’s that?” is okay as long as there are plenty of comments and as long as you tell the child the answer to your question, if, after a pause they say nothing.
