Using books to help language development.
Choose books with simple pictures.
If it’s a story, tell the simple outline of the story first with a word or two about each picture.
Use the same stories over and over again so they become familiar. Let your child choose a favourite book - be prepared to read the favourites over and over again! Let him join in and fill in some of the key words of the story.
‘Flap’ books are very helpful – your child can open the flaps as you comment and tell the story.
